Hi Folks,
You may all know that our candle light vigil we held in May is a great
success, we have over 400+ attendees, it was reported by almost all
local TV stations and attended by 8 elected officials from most cities
around.
In light of the community bonding spirit, we would like to hold more
community service programs. Thus we are holding a volunteer
appreciation BBQ this weekend. We would like to extend invitation to
all the volunteers that helped in the earthquake relief, and also your
families that supported you. Just as an appreciation from the local
community. All those that are interested in volunteer for future
community service programs are also welcome.
Besides that, we are also planning to build a
parents association (孝
心社). You know a big problem for visiting parents is the isolation
that comes from language and cultural barriers. And this is shared by
most of the visiting parents. So we want to organize all those that
have visiting parents, to take turns to hold/help hold activities for
parents in turn. This way, parents got chance to socialize with their
peers, and the burden to accompany parents could also be shared among
the attendees. If you have parents visiting, or you simply are
interested in helping, you are welcome to join us ( along with your
parents ) in this event as well. We may have a local Mayor to give
some guide on local governmental resources for visiting parents.
If you are coming, please reply to this email or NCAmerican@gmail.com,
so we could have a clear headcount.
Thanks.
